Ryan Newman is awake and speaking with doctors and family after his horrific crash in the last lap of Monday's Daytona 500 NASCAR race. Good news there for sure!
The race was moved from Sunday to Monday because of poor weather. Ryan Newman, driving a Ford, was in the lead in the final lap before being nudged by one of the cars trailing right behind him, a very common strategy in NASCAR. He then flipped over, was t-boned by another car and his car then caught on fire as it slid upside down for many metres.

Amazing that only two days after that crash and Ryan Newman is standing and being visited by his daughters at hospital. Its a testament to the safety equipment installed in modern cars.

Similar story in Formula 1. Hardly any drivers die now but when it started up until the 70s. there was one dying in almost every race, it seemed.
