Apologies if there's already a thread for Heartbeat, but I need to complain.
Last Friday, the 22nd of May, ITV3 came to the end of the series with the last episode SWEET SORROW. Today they're rolling back to one called SWEET SIXTEEN. Like they've done several times before.
Why can't they roll it back to the very beginning?
I think that ITV3 are scared that people won't watch because it's in the old 4:3 picture format. Complete nonsense, if that's true.
What ITV3 are denying us is Nick Berry as the village copper, and the brilliance of Claude Jeremiah Greengrass.
Why should it matter? Because I'm a fan, and ITV3 are being complacent and lazy.

I'm not sure. It might be a rights issue. I'd have thought ITV own the rights but it might be owned by a production company. I know that Drama a couple of years ago, advertised every episode of The Bill, did a little Q&A with some cast members, really advertised the fact. They got to series 4 and then jumped to 14! And whenever they show them again it's always from around the 1hr long episodes. It was mentioned that they didn't have the rights to those other episodes, but if so why advertise it.

Hi, not sure if you're aware of this, but I noticed ITV3 showed the earlier series of Heartbeat right from series 1 during this summer (2021) for the first time in god knows how long. Not sure how many series they showed as I didn't really watch them, but I know they went as far as series 6 or 7, possibly into the Mike Bradley series when Nick had left. As I'm a big fan of the earlier series and Know most of those episodes well, and noticed there were a few cuts made, which I suppose is understandable given the daytime viewings and that there is the odd swear word or two and some violent scenes (ie Greengrass having his nose butted by a Brummie and him calling them b**tards and then being punched back). However, I noticed there was one cut which I thought was abit unnecessary during series 3 episode 5 Chilly Reception (it's the one with Daniel Craig in it), where the character Susan is about to walk into her grans house and discover she has died, this was cut for some odd reason. I'm guessing ITV thought it was too sensitive to the mostly old age audience. Know doubt there were other scenes cut due to the earlier series' somewhat controversial and unsettling storylines, but to me that's what Heartbeat should be like and should've stayed like, it's supposed to be a real life drama not a comedy. I personally hate the later series once Greengrass had left (and know doubt I'm not the only one). Bernie Scripps, David Stockwell and Vernon (and Peggy later on) ruined it for me, not helped by the cardboard cut out characters and poor acting from the guest actors. Speaking of Bernie Scripps, but does anyone know when Bernie changed the name of the garage from its original name to that of Scripps Garage and Funeral Services?. A few days ago I was watching an episode from mid series 11 (late 2001), and I noticed during a scene where Gina is talking to someone outside the pub you can see the garage briefly and above it the sign "Mostyn's" is displayed. Now considering Bernie Scripps had been in Aidensfield from about the time Kate Rowan died (series 5), and pretty much took over the garage as a mechanic, I thought it was strange that the original owners name was still displayed above the garage not Scripps. Was Bernie working for the owner?. The original owner of the garage was named Malcolm Mostyn who would be seen selling petrol and was last seen at the end of series 3, but he disappeared after that with no mention of him again.
Also, does anyone know if the UK DVD releases have been cut?. I'm aware of music changes to Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, some of them are quite well done and some or really terrible, and in some cases they've used a different song instead. I noticed one cut from an upload on youtube from series 2 ep 2 "End of the Line" where they cut out a small bit where we see the taxi driver at the station ask the old man where he wants to go. On the original broadcast and the ones which can be found on Britbox this short clip is there. Why cut the DVDs I don't know, could the ones I've seen on youtube the uploader has cut that part out as the music appears to have been redubbed over the original music. I would imagine the company that produced the DVDs had access to the original tape without any added music track or sound effects, so all they would need to do is just add a cover song where the original music was, but it appears the version I've seen which purports to be from the DVD they haven't done this. In other episodes I've noticed that alot of the original dialogue has been muted whenever there's been a change to the music. Without knowing whether the ones I've seen have come from a different region DVD or the UK DVD release, I've no idea if these alterations are present in the UK DVDs. If they are all the same then they have done a pathetic job. Heartbeat deserves a better DVD release.
