I can never work out how it started as Twilight fanfic. But I guess that would require me to read them. Or watch them. Well ... Twilight is very very tame - no sex till marriage etc etc. Generally speaking shippers are all about the sex! So there was a lot of scope here to delve in to the unexplored. E L James did it by switching out vampirism for (very badly written) BDSM - Edward fears hurting Bella like Christian fears hurting Ana. Difference being, Christian is frickin full on abusive; Edward is just a creepy stalker! Characters are literally swapped out between stories, and the plot points are pretty much the same. EL James even wrote the first book from Christian's POV after Stephenie Meyer abandoned her plans to do the same for Edward. I know waaayyyyy too much about this!!

I will count this as taking one for the team. I'm sure we're all suitably grateful.

I read Twilight - very very boring. And tried watching the films, but couldn't get through any of them. And I watched part of Fifty Shades of Grey. Most of my knowledge of both series comes from online sporking and commentary - some of which is truly hilarious.

I read about 3 pages of my sister's copy of Twilight. My face - The reviews for FSoG were hilarious but they did put me off watching the film and reading the book. Then I saw a clip where they were discussing the Terms and Conditions
