I saw some of this on a movie channel last night.
I ... don't get it.
Why is this popular?
It's so BORING. Even the sex scenes are boring.

Never seen it. The reviews were pretty funny though.

I have seen it, pretty terrible but not so bad that I didn't watch it all. It looks good, but isn't sexy.

Porn is dull though, isn't it? Allegedly ...

Not always. Depends on the chemistry between the actors.

Never seen it. The reviews were pretty funny though. The reviews of both book and film are hilarious. But there's no plot. The characters are completely dull. It could have been an exploration of BDSM - it's not even that. Yawn.

Erotic fiction, or porn? It's a fine line. Women need more of a "story", men just want a handy plumber to turn up, to help the lady! (actually, blatant contrived plotlines like that, with terrible music, are sort of amusing, not that I'm an expert or anything!)

Some of the sexiest scenes that I remember didn't actually show any sex. The 'cello' scene in Witches of Eastwick was one of them. Jack Nicholson was so ... animal ... and Susan Sarandon totally responded to it. Sexy as hell but it faded to black.
Slightly more sex but a similar feel was the Postman Always Rings Twice.

Body Heat was a good one, Sea of Love, The Big Easy, and Dangerous Liaisons.

I can never work out how it started as Twilight fanfic. But I guess that would require me to read them. Or watch them.
I wasn't put off by the subject of FSOG, but the trend of first person, present tense narrative makes my head explode.
I haven't seen Secretary, either, but I've heard it's a more interesting take on BDSM.

Secretary is a very good film! Much more subtle about the power balance in a BDSM relationship.
