This 6-part series will be released on 3 September, and stars Adam Pålsson (Christian in Walter Presents' Before We Die, and he was also in Sky's Avenue 5). It's an English language production, so he's pronounced WOLL-n-da, and it was filmed in Lithuania with a mainly British and Swedish cast.
Unlike the usual 'Young' versions of well-known detectives, it's set (impossibly) in the present - according to Radio Times "In addition to functioning as a prequel, the English-language show promises to be a “modern reimagining” – so there will be no jump back in time to accommodate Wallander’s youth, but rather a younger version of the detective transplanted into present-day Sweden.". I'll reserve my judgement ... Official Netflix page including trailer: www.netflix.com/gb/title/81011098

I'll give it a skip. I'd be constantly muttering 'It's Va-LAN-da' at the TV

How very peculiar! I couldn't stand it when Kenny B changed the pronunciation! I mean does he think we are all too thick to cope with foreign names?
But if they are putting it in the present, why try to link it to the established show? It would be like setting Endeavour in 2020. Perhaps young and old Morse/Montalbano/Wallander could meet on a current case.

After suspending everything I know about the "real" Wallander - I think this is actually pretty good and am enjoying it. I've got throuigh 4 of the 6 episodes so far. My only real complaint is the gloom (literal, that is - scenes frequently suffer from low light levels).
Had to look up one actor whose face looked very familiar - turns out she played drippy Morwenna in Poldark.

I liked it.
It seems quite polarising. I'm in the "It isn't Wallander, but it's good entertainment" camp. The other camp is "It isn't Wallander and it's very disappointing".
I'd watch another series if there is one.

Series 2 is out on Netflix, I've watched it and still found it entertaining, but not quite as good as S1. There are historical and recent murders; the former turned out to have a more satisfactory explanation than the latter. I'll watch more if there are any.
