www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-37116263ITV is switching off all seven of its channels for an hour to encourage people to get off their sofas and take part in sport following Team GB's Olympics success. ITV will stop broadcasting from 09:30 on 27 August as part of the I Am Team GB campaign. The move, organised with the National Lottery, will also see thousands of sports clubs open to let people try new sports for free.

Ha! They will have to turn off all the channels to get that to work. Anyone watching ITV at that time of a Saturday morning will just turn over to something else.

That's what I thought. I was also miffed to see in the article that I've been missing Murder She Wrote on a Saturday morning!!

They'd have to turn off all the channels and the internet too, for it to make any difference, which is sad. It's a nice gesture, and maybe if a few broadcasters had followed suit, it might have made people think about getting involved with sport. It would also have more of an impact if they did it in the evening.

I think if someone is inspired to get involved in a sport, they will. No matter what is on the tv. It's not like they can't record something they don't want to miss.
ETA: Thinking about it, it's the free sessions at sports clubs that is the important bit. If that means people can try the sport for nothing first and enjoy it, then they will get into it. Whether the tv is on or not will make little difference, IMO. That's just ITV jumping on the BBC's Get Inspired bandwagon.

No. One. Will. Notice.
Their ad revenue in that hour will be so low ITV may even gain from it in cost savings.

I'm guessing not many people watch TV at that time on a Saturday anyway, bet they won't do it at peak time.

I hate this sort of thing, nannying us. If people choose to do sport or exercise it is up to them. It is also up to them what they eat!

Quite right Sootycat,I shall not be bullied into doing something I do not want to do.If I want to take exercise I shall do so of my own volition and not be jollyed along by some type of nanny state initiative.
