Honour will premiere on ITV on Monday September 28th at 9pm.
Honour tells the story of Detective Chief Inspector Caroline Goode’s (Keeley Hawes) passionate search to discover the fate of missing 20-year old Banaz. DCI Goode discovered that Banaz had been to the police five times to report threats to her life from members of her own family.
Appalled that her own colleagues had missed multiple chances to save a young woman’s life and prevent a so-called “honour” killing, Caroline vowed that she would not rest until she finally got justice for Banaz. It was a promise that quickly became personally consuming.

A heart breaking - and fury inducing - drama which was very well scripted and acted.
I just cannot understand these men - fathers/brothers/uncles - who demonise their own kin in the name of religion. IF these strict rules are the kind they wish to live under and raise their daughters to obey, why do they come to the UK? Settle in a country where these rules are the norm.
As for their infuriating "no comment" interviews - how about asking them to swear on the Koran (if that is what they live by) that they do not know where the missing girl has gone, did not harm her etc. The claim to be following their faith so this would surely not be a problem.

I thought this was very good. My blood was boiling at these appalling men, boiling. And also at that horrendous policewoman who wrote off poor old Banaz as an attention seeker and then tried to stitch up Kelley Hawes. What a cow! I would have liked one of those “where are they now” slides at the end to have told us what happened to her. Hopefully she got the sack.

I thought it was good too, and quite harrowing at times. It wasn't just the guilty men I found repulsive, but also the whole culture which allows such people to prevail and encourages young men to be constantly spying on the girls and reporting on their behaviour. The only options for women are put up and shut up, or run away like Banaz's sister Bekhal and live out their lives isolated from their family and everyone they grew up with.

The policewoman in question got a slap on the wrist and was subsequently promoted.

Dear God! I despair at times. Well at least she was presented on national TV as a total cow.

This is why the children need to be educated irrespective of any parents views. Remember those protests about teaching children that men could marry men etc. They said they wanted the right to exclude their children and had a right to a religious view point. They do, but not in a public state funded school or for that matter a registered private school.
All of these boys and girls need to be taught what rights everyone has and what is against the law in this country. So when you hear about someone complaining about the British Values Curriculum, it's not about teaching children how wonderful the Empire was, it's about teaching them about culture in this country and what the law supports.
In reality if the girls family do not complain then these young women simply disappear and if they are taken back to Asia, the authorities are not likely to investigate or prosecute.
