I've been listening to Jenni Murray's last broadcast which was on Thursday and available on the iplayer. I am so sorry she has moved on – she's one of those presenters who should go on forever. The programme featured a discussion with Jude Kelly, Helena Kennedy, Harriet Harman and Jackie Kay, as well as her 'best bits' including interviews with Margaret Thatcher, Hillary Clinton and many others. I will miss her lovely, warm, chocolatey voice as well as her gentle but forensic interviewing style. Haven't heard what she is going to do next but I do hope she hasn't hung up her mic for good.

It was a scandalous waste to undervalue her for all those years, just because it was for and about women. She has now written about some of the things she had to put up with, which she had to suppress whilst she was on the payroll.

So what did we all think of Emma Barnett's first show? I was a bit surprised she didn't do any before taking over the helm, but now she's arrived, I hope she relaxes a bit and stops trying to do a Newsnight interview in a morning magazine radio show. Her interview with Sonia Khan was too aggressive, I thought, when Sonia had made it clear she was not going to discuss the events of that day (and as she settled out of court is probably prohibited from doing so). This is what Jane Garvey frequently did and why I was not sorry that she moved on. However, the other pieces were fine – and quite a coup to have a message from Her Maj!

I listened because I liked Emma’s 5Live show and will miss it.
She can definitely be aggressive in her interviews, but I would have said today more exasperated, the interviewee didn’t seem to want to say anything much at all, so why was she on the programme?
A morning radio show doesn’t have to be cosy
She’s going to find it hard to get used to only having 45 minutes and no phone-in discussions. I think I read somewhere that she has presented the programme a few times, maybe the weekend edition?

Remarkable interview this morning with Clemency Burton-Hill, who had a brain haemorrhage a year ago today, caused by an undiagnosed, rare condition called AVM. She was in a coma for 17 days and on emerging from that, was able to hear and understand everything around her but could not speak or move. In the last few weeks she has been learning to speak and this was her first broadcast interview. There's an article about it here: www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-53793624In these dark days it's very uplifting to hear such a positive story.
