This is ..... odd.
It has moments of sheer brilliance that take your breath away. Surrounded by 15 mins of meh and WTF? IMO, it would have made a fantastic 3-hour film. Unfortunately ... it's not. Worth watching though, as long as you know to wait for the moments.
And it's a ghost story but it's not scary

I wasn't going to bother with this but you've inspired me to start on it - intriguing so far, 2 episodes in.

They featured this on Gogglebox last night. My goodness - they have some wussies on that!

They found it scary? I didn't, not at all. There's a few jumpy moments but nothing to keep you awake. There's not even much violence in it.

Not all of them, but a few did.

I too watched the Goggleboxers reactions. I suppose they have to 'over act' for the cameras. It seems to be based on the M. R. James novel The Turn of the Screw. There's also an opera version.

Finished it now, and I thought it was good with some great moments. I agree it's longer than necessary and the repetition, although there's a point to it, is overdone. Not scary, and by the end - as the character who recounts the tale says - it had become something a bit different from a straightforward ghost story. I got pretty confused in the middle, but fortunately the last couple of episodes mostly cleared things up. I don't know how far it departs from The Turn of the Screw, but I notice in IMDB Henry James himself is only credited as a writer for 3 of the 9 episodes!

I stopped watching once it went back into the past. But I might watch the last one just to find out the ending.
