My mum's old Nokia has recently died on her. Anybody have any recommendations for a replacement? Preferably one that isn't too complicated. She's not currently on any kind of contract, to my knowledge. (I know Dame Bouncy started a thread about hers, but it's developed into a convo about replacement TVs, etc, now and I fear any recommendations for a mobile will get lost. Thanks for those conversations, btw - as a result, I found out about the Amazon Firestick and bought one for my non-Smart TV. Now I don't need to link up my laptop to the TV if I want to watch something on the i-Player on a bigger screen! )

I just asked my 77 year old mother and she said 'None of them! Hate the damn things!' Sorry about that.

Doro phones are reckoned to be good, and are designed with older users in mind, with larger buttons and some versions that can speak. You can choose between a smart phone or a basic mobile. You can, as with all phones, choose PAYG or contract. I'd recommend a SIM-only contract and then buying the phone outright, so you can change the phone if you wish without faffing around with the contract. My own contract is with Plusnet, for which I pay about £8 per month for unlimited, texts, unlimited minutes and 7 GB of data, which I think is a great deal. www.doro.com/en-gb/products/mobile-phones/

My Mom's is a Doro. She does find the keys easier to use but the screen is small.

This consumer advocacy site lists their top-rated mobile phones for seniors. With photos and the selling points of each. Most are either old school, easy to use flip phones, or large buttoned, easy to use smart phones. www.consumersadvocate.org/cell-phones-for-seniors

My Dad's landline died at some point yesterday afternoon. He has managed to arrange an engineer's visit some time on Weds this week using his mobile which rarely sees the light of day. .

Thanks for the suggestions, folks. Mum's new Doro arrived today - we've just got to wait for a new SIM card now to put into the new phone and get her old number and credit, etc, transferred over.
