So,this is something that is rife on Ch5,especially in daytime,but last night,there was 5 Gold Rings,then Tipping Point,the ad breaks appear,but there is no advertising of products,just plugs for other shows,and that annoying Brit-Box one.
So 2 hours,might not be considered prime time,but still lots of viewer time.
Now this might be considered fine,no annoying ads,but advertising funds the channel,so this must affect future programming.
Times are obviously hard,so perhaps those who think the BBC should not be licence fee funded,or dropped altogether, will need a Plan B.
There is obviously a budget for advertising,either that has been cut,or is just not being used.
Am no expert,but without advertising revenue,what happens,subscription TV for all?
Anybody got any thoughts?

I'm actually quite happy to pay for the channels I watch by subscription. I was at my Mom's this weekend and one channel we watched had 6 ads in one break. And most of them were depressing charity adverts. We got so fed up with them we turned over and abandoned the rest of the programme. And I expect quite a few people now do that as we know there are other ways to watch TV without being forcefed ads.
As for the BBC, I don't want to lose it but the licence fee is rapidly becoming unviable, I think.

They (ITV) won't necessarily be losing revenue by not having inter-programme adverts, even in the early peak. The breaks are scripted in, anyway, so they have to happen, but the PSBs are limited to a maximum of 12 minutes of adverts in one hour, but an average of 9 minutes per hour across the peak hours, and 7 minutes per hour across off peak hours*. I suspect that they were saving up their peak time minutes for I'm A Celebrity, which was a 90 minute scheduled programme so, in theory, they could have had 18 minutes of adverts in that one programme, 20% of the air time. The rate is higher for that part of the schedule, so ITV might have seen the best part of £2.25 million worth of revenue compared to £1.8 million spread out from 19:00 to 22:00. * Paid for commercials. Promotion of forthcoming programmes not included.
