On the stairs, there might just have been a hint she might report him if he stepped out of line.

Vicky, I read the books so get a bit confused between the stories there and on TV. In the books she did not have a baby. But IIRC, Annie and Banks were involved but it fizzled out and she got off with someone else by whom she got pregnant and had Isla. They got back in contact but Banks also realised he loved her. At the end of the last series Banks decided he would declare his feelings, and rushed to the pub to see her, but when she came outside to meet him she was flashing an engagement ring from the other chap which she had just accepted. So he was too late. I was quite pleased as I don't much like Annie, in either version, but if she doesn't die it looks like they will be an item. That may not be terribly accurate though, apologies if so! Thanks Marion. I vaguely remember the engagement ring episode now you have reminded me. I quite like her. I hope she survives.

That was a bit of a shocker last night. A couple of weeks ago the Telegraph (which clearly doesn't like this programme) described DCI Banks as ITV's "bland" detective series. It isn't my idea of bland!

I was shocked at this. I didn't realise she died (haven't read any of the books) Poor Banks will continue to be in bits for good now. I expect Richards is somehow involved.

I haven't watched last night's epi yet, but I went to see How The OTher Half Loves with my theatre group today and Annie, who I said I didn't much like upthread, was in it!!!! She was actually very good, and her voice was loud and clear. However the funniest one in it was Jean from Eastenders. She was hilarious with spot on comic timing. So that was a double surprise as I hadn't checked out anything about the production before leaving.

This series has two of the most believable women police officers,I have ever seen, in it and one of them has to die...

ITV is calling time on two major drama series - say goodbye to both DCI Banks and Brief Encounters.

I'm not happy at this. DCI Banks was one of my favourite series

I am very surprised Banks is being shelved. I thought it was well regarded.
