Wednesday (17th) at 9 pm
Hugh Dennis joins archaeologists excavating back gardens around Britain. Starting at Benwell, Newcastle. There's an interview with Hugh in the Radio Times. Apparently he loves history. I will be watching, as I too love history and archaeology.

That was interesting. The discovery of a Roman fort connected to Hadrian's Wall. The archaeologists dug in people's gardens near the site. I'd love to go on a dig, though nowadays I'd be cleaning the artifacts (a sitting down job) instead of digging them up. One little lad (all of six) was so proud he'd unearthed a Roman coin, in his own garden! Hugh Dennis is getting to look like David Baddiel with his beard. Next week they're in Masham, North Yorkshire, looking for a burial ground.

Yes, it is something I'd have liked to have done. I did take an archaeology class at uni; at first, out of curiosity, but in the end, it was really fascinating.

They've always known the fort was there it has been thoroughly investigated. All the local children go there on trips. But was it also a small village. Was it just a place soldiers lived or were shops and houses roundabout. I think they proved a small town/large village was there and also that this town extended into the forts outer walls.
I really liked it. Nice programme.

The dig in Masham was interesting. I don't know what other people thought but when the facial reconstruction was revealed I immediately thought "Oh it looks like Sean Bean!".

So either a Yorkshireman or a Scandinavian! Or a mixture of the two?

I found last night's dig in my home city of Nottingham interesting.

It was interesting and I like the gentle friendly nature of the programme and also the lack of repeating facts over and over again, which PBS does and other channels have started copying.

Series 2 has started and the first one was Falkirk. They made quite an important discovery about the Antonine Wall completely by accident!

I know this isn't the correct show, but I couldn't find it.
Just thought I'd let people in the Midlands know that Prof Alice Roberts is doing a series of lectures of burial practices through the ages. They are public events, the one I saw the poster for was in Chesterfield, but perhaps if you like her check them out.
