Saturday (10th) at 9 pm (1/8)
Crime Drama: Debra has a seemingly perfect life, except in Love. Based on a true story. Stars: Connie Britton (9-1-1 TV series), Christian Slater, and Eric Bana. Saw the trailer last night, looks interesting.

What was Christian Slater in before? He wasn't the Batman with the silly voice, was he?

I can't stand Bale either, there's just something about him, sets my teeth on edge. Regards Slater, go to IMDB.

Ah! I know who he is now. He's been in a few good films but also some right old rubbish. Still, keeps him working!

Just binge-watching this now (am about to start episode 4). I wasn't sure what exactly I was watching at first, but I stuck with the first episode, and it's very gripping now. Anybody else watched/watching it? (For the record, Christian Slater hasn't appeared at all so far, and I believe he doesn't until the second series when a new story will begin in this anthology series.)

I’m watching it. I record the week day repeat. I find it quite enjoyable but hard to follow. We seem to leap about in his back story an awful lot and I am never clear who all these wronged women are. I did actually have to google the true story early on so I knew what was going on (and the outcome but I don’t mind spoilers!). But it is quite good I think. He is just so horrible! But she makes me quite annoyed because she has just fallen under his (to my mind less than charismatic) spell and became a bit of a doormat, yet she is actually a very successful businesswoman and I would have thought she would have more nous. The way he is played I can’t see anything particularly attractive about him 😂😂.

I've watched it all now and greatly enjoyed it. I totally agree with all your points, Marion. The timeshifts were a little to keep track of at times, and I got confused at first whether there was a son as well as a nephew - both didn't feature prominently enough at the start and they both looked a little similar. Also, I'm not sure whether some bits were edited out, as there was a bit in the recap of episode 7 (I think) that I swore blind I hadn't seen. I went back again through the episodes, fast-forwarding to see if I could spot it and just hadn't been paying attention at the time, but still couldn't find it. You'll have to see whether you remember watching the bit, Marion. I'll put what was mentioned in the recap in a spoiler tag below: The recap had a small section with John driving a car and being involved in an accident. The implication was that it followed along the lines of scams he'd done on his father's request previously in Episode 5, and that would be the most obvious episode for this to feature, but I just couldn't see it.

I’ve just watched episode 7 and don’t remember seeing that either.
I thought this was a good episode because it did link the haphazardly screened past with current events. But he isn’t much of a lady killer is he, before Debra? He just seems to scrape by, so I am surprised he had such success with her. I too was confused by the son/nephew. I know IRL there was a son but I thought in the show there were just two daughters and a nephew.

I liked all the twists and turns of the series, and I hope they show the second series at some point. Re. son: I think by the last episode it's clearer that there's a son as well as a nephew. Juno Temple's character (oldest sister) seemed very unlikeable at the start (the way she switched on the mixer to drown out her sister talking, and a similar incident in a later episode ) but I'm glad she was such a tough cookie who was determined to protect her mum from John. She's definitely somebody you'd want on your side if you needed someone to play hardball for you!

Series 2, about Betty Broderick which was apparently a famous case in the US, starts on 5 Star on Wednesday 9 November at 10.00.
