Anyone watching this? At first I thought this was a rerun of the series aired years ago as my online guide said it was presented by Hannah Gordon. I set it to series record anyway as I watched the old series and I’m a very amateur watercolour painter. However it turns out to be a new series hosted by Fern Brittain. I’m enjoying this although the professional painter judge has different opinions to me and I don’t particularly like her paintings! I suppose it’s just as well we don’t all like the same things. My electronic TV guide however is still a bit confused as although it now agrees that Fern Brittain is presenting it, the episodes are all mixed up. The places it says they are visiting are not the ones on the screen, they are obviously been shown in a different order.

It only started last week. I've seen a couple of them and love this kind of thing.

Am I right in thinking the format is different from the original series? I think the original format was that each day there was four(?) different contestants and a winner was chosen each day. On the Friday the four winners would then compete to be winner of the week. This series seems to be the same contestants for a week with just a daily winner. Which is better I think. I have only been watching it as it airs so I don’t know if that is what is happening, there has been no explanation of the procedure, they just choose a winner at the end of each day.

You are right, it's the same four each week and they stay in the same county, then they move elsewhere and have a different four. I assume it's because of Covid. Would be difficult to have four different people every day.

I like this format. You get to see a variety of the different interpretations from each of the artists.

I'm enjoying it but I do find Fern Brittan a bit patronising. She can be very Jolly Hockeysticks sometimes

I'm with you on Fern. She seems to be the kind of woman who would teach you something you already knew and had been doing for years, even though she was doing it wrong!! You know when that happens and you can't say anything because of who they are (relative, boss etc.) but you know it's going to be a cock up and you're probably going to have to 'save it' behind the scenes or take the blame.

Castle Howard was difficult! Lynette's was a bit odd as the perspective was all wrong.

Was that the one where the roof wasn't in the middle of the building? The one thing that is always present in Georgian buildings is symmetry. I think that's why it didn't look right.

I am not sure. It did have very prominent hedges which were too dark.

I was more down to earth than LSOTY. That is very pretentious some times.
