A new murder mystery series set in Provence starring Roger Allam. Critics are rating it. I don't have Britbox. If it's good I'm hoping it will appear somewhere else.
Allam plays the detective/judge.

I would really like to watch this but I have no intention of getting Britbox. Hopefully it will crop up on one of the other channels eventually.

I don't get why the Beeb would show it there first? Oh yes, it's to try and get us to pay for Britbox.
Has anyone seen the "Death in.........." series from France, each one is set in a different town or region of France, so Death in Strasbourg, Death in Toulouse etc. I have no idea what channel they are on but the TV journalist writing about them said they were brilliant.

I think Britbox is worth paying for TBH. If you can afford it, obviously. Watching commercial TV without 84 ads is worth the money for me.

Just watching it now and it's pretty good. There's a couple of things not great. The lead police detective is played by a bad actress and IMO, Roger Hallam is miscast in this. He's a bit one-tone and this needs someone a bit more layered. But it looks gorgeous.

I watched episode 1 this afternoon and enjoyed it. Mind you, any distraction in this heat is welcome!

It’s on ITV 1 on Sundays, Mum was watching a recording of it this afternoon until the phone rang. She said “it was slow”. I’ve recorded it to watch back up in Scotland

I remember watching it. The first one was quite enjoyable for the scenery and the actors. But by the third one, the awful writing got too bad. I wouldn't watch another series of it. And it's certainly not as good as M+D

So in this, the French speak in English accents, but the Italians so far used an Italian accent, and the Russians a Russian accent. So what happens when a British person turns up? 🤭
It’s not all that really is it, but it sort of fits the Sunday night wallpaper slot.

I know. None of it makes sense.

It's watchable with a coffee otherwise I'd nod off. I think they're stretching to make it last the time slot and also the scenery shots.
Trouble is you have to like the characters and these all seem bored with life and bored with their jobs.
There are so many unnecessary scenes and sometimes characters. Like the chap at the vineyard, necessitating a nice trip across country, could have been a hotel in town and somebody integral to the plot could have told us about the affair. Similarly Marin suddenly telling us about some bloke shoving his hand in her knickers to somehow show Etienne wasn't nice. Pointless.
