On tonight at 9 pm - is anyone going to be watching this? It looks like The Apprentice with food.

I am going to try one episode and if it’s no good then it will be binned. All this jumping into the sea nonsense is putting me off for a start. I can’t swim so does that mean he wouldn’t employ me? Or would I have to walk over hot coals instead?

Won't be watching this as I can't stand the bloke.

Nor can I. I am amazed by the BBC's determination to find something for this has-been to present. The whole yelling/swearing/humiliating 'style' of presenting may have been novel in the 90s but I think we have ALL moved on from it (Jeremy Kyle for example).
Michel Roux jnr famously said that if a chef is shouting and swearing HE/SHE has lost control, not his staff.

Hadn’t heard about jumping in the sea! No, I can’t face watching him either. How come he’s got away with his sort of behaviour for so long?

What's jumping in the sea got to do with being able to cook well? Sounds a load of nonsense. And TBH, I'm also not keen on the fella. Like you said, Bidie, that schtick is old.

I remember discussing his programmes with one of the lawyers where I worked. They enjoyed the show but agreed that he would not have a leg to stand on at an industrial tribunal. That was 20 years ago. Society has moved on. I feel his attitude will come over as dated and unacceptable.

His daughter's show is really popular. I wonder if she's threatened to go elsewhere if they don't find something for him?

Watching the trailers was enough for me. Can't stand Gordon. He's got enough shows on other channels.

I just can't think of any other reason why the BBC are bothering with him

It was better than the Apprentice, at least they are all chefs in their own right. I may keep watching

If you have to have stupid things like "jump off a cliff to prove your ability to cope with stress" you clearly have a very, very lame format. These contestants are pro chefs - yet t he Beeb want them to jump through hoops to make this entertaining.
Pity they signed up. I wonder how many declined when they realised what would be expected of them.
Coming next week - make souffles at the border with Russian and Ukraine...

I didn’t find it too bad! The biggest shock was that Gordon wasn’t the most obnoxious person in it. I didn’t like some of the contestants much (like the vegan who kept on at Bola, and the guy who sulked because they wouldn’t do curry) but on the whole I thought it worked quite well. And the equivalent of the boardroom, so the restaurant, benefitted from being one to one with Gordon so we didn’t get the usual screaming rows! I shall keep it on series record. Some things were funny…. A forty minute wait for a cheese toastie with Gordon telling them he could go to Tesco, buy a Breville and cook his own in that time. Nothing looked very appetising to me.

Yes, I quite enjoyed it, although it did have very strong strains of the Apprentice. I'll probably stick with it (the sulky curry guy did make me chuckle!)
