This is a new drama on Acorn. Set in Dublin, featuring a newly retired literature professor whose son is a policeman. She is acerbic, smart, pedantic, heavy drinking and potty-mouthed.
And played by Jane Seymour.
Yes, I know.
She's actually really good in it! But it is odd. The tone is a bit... all over the shop. It has moments that are very funny. And the writing is good but some of the characters are strange. And I am struggling a bit with it being the epitome of posh playing the main character.

I hope it comes to Freeview. I read about this and thought it sounded good.

I've watched four and would say it's interesting and silly. But not silly enough to make me curl a lip and turn it off. The plots are mad.

Finished watching it today as I'd forgotten I'd only watched five of them out of the eight.
It got better as it went along. Plots are still as mad as a bag of cats but the characters are engaging and it's quite funny.

My daughter has been recording these for me and will be bringing them over at the weekend. Depending on how I find them, I might end up binge watching them.
Actually scrub that. She has just come by to drop off the first two episodes so that I can see if I like it.

I tried it last month, but didn't take to it and abandoned it after the first episode. It did feel very odd to me. Little things seemed not quite right, though I couldn't put my finger on why , as though this was a slightly skewed Dublin set in a parallel universe.

I am not sure what to make of this. After the first episode, the first thing I thought of was Scooby Doo; not at all what I was expecting. I'll watch the other episode later on before I decide, though if it still reminds me of Scooby Doo, I might give up on it.

I was like that. But if you roll with the silliness and suspend your disbelief, it's an enjoyable comedy drama.

Yes, first impressions can definitely be a stumbling block. I wasn't sure what to expect when I started watching it; it really doesn't help that I have Scooby Doo in my head. I'll just have to try and suppress it before watching the next episode.

So, Episode two was a definite improvement for me; so I'll be getting the rest; and I managed to get Scooby Doo out of my head, even though he was mentioned in the episode towards the end.

My daughter never came round with the rest of the episodes. I'm sort of glad she didn't; it gave me the opportunity to watch Upload which I found much better. She said that she will bring them round after work on Monday.

This starts tonight on Channel 5 at 8.00. A bit of cosy crime for the weekend, 👍.

Oh good! I'm glad an FTA channel have picked it up.
Remember to suspend your disbelief and roll with the silliness.

Snogging the face off some random at your retirement do, correcting everyone’s grammar, sloshing back the red wine… what’s not to like? I love her already, 😂😂.
