This new series will follow her as she travels to the far reaches of Japan, from the icy Siberian seas of the north to the subtropical islands of the south. Joanna travels into the Fukushima exclusion zone, where a huge tsunami devastated the nuclear power plant in 2011. She did a programme on the Trans-Siberian railway from Hong Kong to Mongolia which was fascinating. I am really looking forward to this.

I enjoyed that one as well so will keep an eye out for this new one.
I didn't know Japan stretched that far.

I enjoyed the Railway one, and the Greek Islands one, Oh! And I nearly forgot the Nile in Egypt one......that was brilliant!
So I'm looking forward to this.

I think JL is like marmite, but I love her and can't wait for this latest trip to Japan, she always seems to say just the right thing doesn't she without toadying up to people or fawning like some presenters and she always looks so gorgeous too. I think she's an inspiration and always cheers me up !

I'd put this into the same category as Pru and Tim's canal journeys – gentle, undemanding, beautiful things to look at. I also liked her quest to see the Aurora Borealis.

Absolutely fascinating programme. Those ice sculptures were wonderful. That bit on Fukushima was so sad, I thought the old guy who remained behind to look after the animals deserved a medal. Can't wait for next week

A great programme! My favourite bit was the cranes in the snow, it was a really beautiful scene.

Wow, was even better than I'd anticipated ! Used to work a lot with Japanese students and have visited Japan several times but this whetted my appetite to go back, so much I'd forgotten. And of course beautifully presented and narrated by lovely Joanna !

She seems to have a way with people (whoever they are) doesn't she. Regular presenters could learn a thing or two from her.

I didn't watch this last night. But I think I will watch it on Catch Up this afternoon when I get back from doing the weekly shop. Good to see the comments. Yes, Joanna Lumley is lovely.

Well, I did indeed watch this this afternoon and found it entrancing. By coincidence, I was served at the checkout in Sainsbury's by a young Gurkha lass (we have a Gurkha battalion based here in Folkestone) and she asked me what I was planning to do this afternoon. So I told her about Joanna Lumley programme I was hoping to watch. She said she had met her and her dad's best friend is good friends with her. Said she was an amazing woman - which of course, she is!

She seems to have a way with people (whoever they are) doesn't she. Indeed, as was very evident in her interview with the trainee geisha last night. Really natural and so much information revealed. (What a weird life-choice though!) So lovely to see some schools in Japan are now encouraging children to be individuals, whilst keeping the tradition of courtesy alive.
