Wonderful programme. The view from that helicopter was fantastic. That area with all the Cherry Blossom was beautiful.
I have to say though I found that young Geisha girl quite sad. What a lonely existance she must have.

Caught up with the last episode yesterday. What an enthralling series. I had no idea Japan stretched out over 2000 miles and it was fascinating to see the contrasts between north and south, urban and rural. The interviews with individuals were so interesting as well.
It is really surprising that Japan has so few migrants from other parts of the world. As a successful economy, I wonder why that is?

Well, there are other parts of the world on fault lines. Multi-culturalism is the norm across the world's successful economies ... except in Japan. That seems unusual. Maybe the sense of "Japanese-ness" has been very strong across the centuries and so there is a continuity missing in other places.
