The fourth and final series, adapted from the last of Elena Ferrante's 4-book series of Neapolitan novels, has been confirmed and is expected to air early next year.
I've watched the first 3 series of this HBO Italian language, English subtitled, production and have been impressed, though some might find it slow in places. It follows the friendship and fortunes of two girls, starting when they were at primary school together in 1950s Naples and on through decades to adulthood and maturity. The period and geographical detail is meticulous. Some bits of dialogue are apparently in the Neapolitan dialect, which even some Italians struggle to understand and require their own subtitles for, though of course this is lost on non Italian speakers like me. Like in Netflix's The Crown, the actors have to change from time to time as their characters get older, and will do again for S4.
