Aussie drama set in 1986: "The big news is behind the camera. In a world on the cusp of change, star anchor Helen and rookie reporter Dale join forces to survive the cut-throat world of commercial TV."
The first 2 episodes are scheduled for broadcast tonight (Sun 24 July, BBC2 9.00pm & 9.55pm). However, all 6 episodes are already on iPlayer - I've started watching and really enjoying it. By tonight I may well have binged it all.
Filming is under way in Melbourne for series 2, set a year later in 1987.

Ive watched episode 1 which got my feminist hackles rising! But yes, its good and I like the cast. The woman from Fringe. The hot tradey from Five Bedrooms. And last but not least, Sheriff Longmire himself!!!!!

Missed this in favour of Death in Provence, fell asleep and missed the ending for the second week running which tells me something I think! The Telegraph reviewer didn't like The Newsreader which means I may well as I rarely agree with her. I'll seek it out on the iPlayer.

I've watched it now and thought it was OK. Certainly worth carrying on with.

The Beeb has acquired series 2 of The Newsreader, which has recently been released in Australia. BBC Media Centre says "The six-part series will air on BBC Two and iPlayer later this autumn": www.bbc.co.uk/mediacentre/2023/the-newsreader-series-2-bbc . Furthermore a third series seems highly likely, so hopefully the BBC will acquire that too.

Series 2 starts Thursday 9 November, 9.00 pm BBC2.
Series 3 confirmed (for Australia, at least).

I didn't think it was anything special; but I am willing to give it a chance for series 2. It took me a while to realise that it was Anna Torv. I am slowly making my way through (with spoilers at the link) The Last of Us, another series with her in it.

I have caught up with The Newsreader now and am really enjoying it even if I do have difficulty with the dialogue at times, in spite of having the subtitles on: the back and forth between the characters is so quick-fire at times it's hard to keep up. I haven't had time to revisit the first series so was afraid I would have difficulty remembering who was who and what had happened but it all came back to me very easily.I think it's good.

Ended up binging the whole series on iPlayer because I was enjoying it so much.I did have to wonder what Helen and Dale saw in each other: she is controlling and aggressive and he is a complete drip. I absolutely love Lindsey though. The part is so brilliantly played. There is an interesting set up for the next series though which I hope we don't have to wait too long for.

I watched the first two yesterday and really enjoyed it. Quality stuff. I’m saving the next two for later in the week.
