I haven't downloaded this as I rarely want to watch anything on ITV but I checked the ratings on Playstore and it's getting absolutely trashed! A rating of 3.6 out of 5. Which, if you don't it use Playstore, may not seem too bad but, trust me, that's awful! Anything below a 4 is often a death knell for a game. For a channel, who knows?
I guess ITV may try and improve it but being told over and over again that it's even worse than the Hub is not good news.

How is it different to the Hub then? As far as I can see, apart from paying extra (if you choose to) for no ads, it’s the same.

The Guardian were saying that it is a change of mindset, almost in line with what the BBC are planning, to have everything online, and not as it is now; at some point, everyone will switch off terrestrial television.

Which is all very well, but what about when your router goes down? I really think the powers that be need to understand not everyone in the country has a good internet connection. A friend of mine in Gloucestershire used to have terrible problems, and even in London it’s not 100% 24/7. Let alone the fact that some people don’t have the internet, but hey, they’re probably older people so who gives a flying……

Unless they upgrade everything, and put a lot of it on satellite, current broadband is not going to be enough with too many people using the same circuits to watch television. Home broadband customers on a standard broadband connection can expect an average ratio of 50:1 on their home connection, with businesses averaging 20:1 although this is only an estimate. This means that 50 people are likely to be using the same bandwidth as you at any one time. During peak hours – in the evenings and at weekends – this ratio may increase, causing your connection speed to drop as more people go online at the same time. This would have an effect on your television quality. This will not matter as much if you are on a fibre connection.
The other option is 5G broadband which offers speeds of up to 110 Mbps which is about 50 Mbps more than an average normal broadband service.

I was given a yearly subscription to itvX (so I can access the Britbox stuff) as a birthday present. It’s very similar to the old hub. I never had Britbox before, so it might look like that too. You can watch plenty of stuff there for free (with adverts). The new David Tennant series Litvinenko, which drops on Thursday is free to view.

The problem is that I don’t have an internet compatible tv. So I will need to get a new tv to watch anything if it all goes online. I can only watch the iPlayer on my iPad, which I do occasionally,if I’ve missed something but would not want to do it long term.

If your TV has a HDMI socket, you can buy a Google Chromecast which is a lot cheaper than a new TV

I do have one, so that’s good. It was way around the back. The tv is fine and I wouldn’t want to get rid of it unless it stopped working. Many thanks George!
