I have just watched the film on Amazon Prime about the formative years of Pele's career. The film started out with the actual commentary of European commentators in the 1958 World Cup in Sweden. They were astonishingly disparaging of the fact that a 17 year old could play in the competition; some were utterly racist, all were, of course blinded by prejudice.
The film then goes back to his childhood, and how he learned to play using balls of laundry with a rock in the middle, and mangos, and on to his he joined Santos. It is definitely worth watching it you want to know how he came to be the star he is, but it has the disadvantage of being a film, and not a documentary. Perhaps, they should have made both.
