I've always steered well clear of hospital dramas, but this one caught my eye, mainly because of the cast. So I started watching and rapidly got hooked, and have now binged the lot (whole series is available on ITVX). Most of the medical terminology went over my head, and there are one or two surgical procedures I had to watch with my hands over my eyes! - but it's highly engrossing.
It centres on three staff members at an NHS hospital who all return to work at the same time following maternity leave, and then struggle to balance family commitments with a highly demanding job. Lara Pulver plays a surgeon, Parminder Nagra a paediatric registrar and Lisa McGrillis an acute medical doctor; stalwarts such as Julie Graham, Haydn Gwynne and Cathy Tyson pop up, and there are some familiar faces among the men too.

Yes I’m watching it and loving it! Me too. Whilst being a totally different setting it reminds me a bit of The Split in the way it is portraying the complication of life for professional working women.

I watched it last week and didn’t really care about any of them! Maybe I was in a bad mood, but when the mother said she would be keeping her phone off, I thought well I don’t blame you, as the surgeon seemed to expect her to be available whenever her work schedule required cover. As I say, perhaps I was in a bad mood! I’ll stick with it for the time being though. I was jolly annoyed when the doctor was thrown under the bus by that useless junior though.

I’ve been watching this (I record it as it clashes with Silent Witness) and am really enjoying it.

I’ve abandoned ship. As soon as the surgeon signed the document about “citizenship” which was in Swedish without a translation or legal opinion, from a couple I hadn’t trusted from the start, I couldn’t be bothered any more.

I’m still watching. I too was very surprised that she would sign a form without translation or legal advice!

With only one episode left to go I am still really enjoying this .... if "enjoying" is the right word for something so thought provoking and worrying. I have two hopes: that there will be another series and, most importantly, that people in government and management who are responsible for the NHS are taking on board the pressures that frontline medical staff are subject to. I know this is a fictional depiction but I am pretty sure there isn't much exaggeration for dramatic effect.
