I saw this yesterday at Richmond. It is billed as a thrilling ghost story and based on true events, and has received very positive reviews.
The Secretary of the Guernsey Historical Society has invited a speaker to make a podcast about paranormal events. The unnamed speaker arrives in the middle of a storm and proceeds to recount four spooky stories of various events, and the two men argue about the probability of ghosts. They do the podcast and then at the end there is a Big Reveal. It stars two actors unknown to me, Tony Timberlake and Thomas Dennis.
This play seemed to divide the audience. My friends and I thought it was pretty poor but it received cheers at the end. I was amazed. I found it quite hard to hear a lot of what was being said because they were opposite each other at a desk a lot of the time, recording the podcast. Also, I would take issue with the word terrifying! Yes, I did jump in my seat at times but that was because of extremely loud thunderclaps, not because of any sense of spooky horror. Because of the low volume which meant I missed bits of the four stories, I’m also not 100% sure I fully understood the final reveal, 😂. The two group members next to me agreed it wasn’t that great, but the three members in front said it was really good. So a mixed bag really.
