I have just found this on Amazon Prime. Rizzoli and Isles is an American crime drama television series starring Angie Harmon as Jane Rizzoli and Sasha Alexander as Maura Isles. Based on the series of Rizzoli & Isles novels by Tess Gerritsen, the plot follows Boston Homicide police detective Jane Rizzoli and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Isles combining their experiences and strikingly different personalities to solve cases.
I normally like this sort of thing, so I am going to give it a go. it has 4.5 stars on Amazon.

I used to love this and was sad when it finished, you'll enjoy it.

Me too. The plots can be a bit silly but the leads spark off each other really well.

Just watched the first two and am liking it; it is not too demanding, though the first two cases were a bit intense. They seem to like their serial killers.

I watched the first series and enjoyed it. Think it was on Pick or 5USA, but no more were shown. I plan to start this after I finish The Following. I might have to rewatch series 1 because I can’t remember the character development (if any!). If it is a US mega series I might just watch the last couple.

I am really liking this; I am just about managing not to binge it; I have got other things on my list to watch.

I am wondering if I should get the books of this. Does anybody know if they are any good? Maybe I'll just get one and see. I have never read anything by Tess Gerritsen.

I haven’t read any of hers, in fact I didn’t even know this was based on books rather than an original drama! I wonder whether they have used all the same plots or just taken the characters. I looked on Fantastic Fiction and think I saw about 12 novels listed. The Surgeon is the first title.

Looking on Wikipedia, it seems that there are some connections between the books and the Television series. Serial Killer Charles Hoyt appears in the books and curiously is seen reading one of the books, Tess Gerritsen's "The Silent Girl" (book 9 in the series) in prison.

I have the first book, and it is nothing like the television series. Perhaps that is not a surprise because Detective Rizzoli is not the lead, and Dr Isles is nowheere to be seen. It is more like the book in which she decided to make a series out of Jane Rizzoli's character, and to add another, as yet unintroduced Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Isles. Some on Amazon gave this book one star because it wasn't like the TV Jane Rizzoli was nothing like how Angie Harmon portrayed her, and the crime of the first book was very precisely described by the doctor that Tess Gerritsen is; and this reminds us that murder is not sanitised like the almost neat bodies on the autopsy table, perhaps with a Y shaped incision across the chest. You know that the culprit is bad, there is no ambiguity to this, and you want them to catch him; you know it's a him because the first words are his. I am only on the second chapter, and I am liking the book. Unless she makes a mess of it in the rest of the book, I will probably buy more; but it will no stop me watching the TV series which I already liked; but which I accept is different.

So a bit like The Catch on Channel 5 then? No or very little resemblance to the books in either plot or character? 😂😂😂

So I have finally reached the end of the line and thoroughly enjoyed the show. But I am not remotely impressed by the ending because I don’t believe there is any way Jane would leave the BPD or Boston.
Also, the same applies to the finale of Medium. No don’t kill off Joe, especially as he is still going IRL! And how come when Allison returns as a ghost she is about 40years younger looking whereas everyone else looks as they did on their death? I really liked the show apart from that though even though Allison was very prickly and, imho, a bit of a bully. I adored Joe, apparently the actor’s father used to score drugs in London for the Rolling Stones. 😎
