Anyone watch this? It’s about the Brinks Mat robbery, primarily from the police perspective I believe. There has been so much in the papers about it I hardly feel the need to watch it. Hugh Bonneville plays the lead detective, backed by the woman from the House of Incest in Sanditon and that chap from The Paradise (Charlotte Spencer, Emun Elliott) with Dominic Cooper as the very smooth money-laundering solicitor. They reckon it funded the Canary Wharf development and traces will be in any jewellery subsequently bought in the UK.
Two things struck me.…
If you carried a gold bar in a supermarket plastic carrier it would rip straight through it so as the show is called The Gold they could at least be accurate about the gold.
Who knew that Kenneth Noye was such a chirpy chappy? And there was me thinking he was a murdering toerag!

They never get the weight of the gold right in dramas. I've even seen one where they were throwing the ingots to each other!

I went to a performance of Speed the Plow years ago with Jeff Goldblum and Kevin Spacey (it was a long time ago) in which one of them threw a TV at the other, which clearly wasn't heavy and didn't even sound heavy when it hit the deck!
I didn't like The Gold, not enough period detail, particularly the lack of sexism towards the Charlotte Spencer character whose Gor Blimey accent also put me off. Perhaps I just wasn't in the mood. I was watching live and couldn't freeze frame the credits - anyone know who played the security guard? I've been trying to remember where else I've seen him and he isn't listed in the cast either in RT or IMDB.

Which security guard? - I assume the one colluding with the robbers, Robert Wright, played by Josef Altin. The other one, who couldn't remember the keypad number, was Ralph Turner, played by Tom Meeten.

Agree Helen, I didn’t like the Sarf Lunnon accent either.

Yes, it was Josef Altin, thanks GM. He played Tyler, the blackmailer of Coiln (Mark Bonnar)in series 2 of Unforgotten who keyed a car and spent the rest of the series regretting it. That's where I've seen him before, but on looking at his IMDB entry he has a long list of supporting roles.

Charlotte Spencer was Carly, the missing girl who unwittingly led to Lindsay Denton's downfall in Line of Duty series 2. It may have been her first big part, she was very young. She did have a London accent as I recall but not as exaggerated as in this.

I wanted to watch this.
Not long into it I had to switch over. I have no time for any production that 'tweaks' the colour balance to make us think that we're watching something old. This looked like it did just that. The colour was muted. Are we expected to believe that this was filmed all those years ago?
Then, the hand-held camera. It's constant movement made me dizzy.
A decent story ruined yet again by producers or directors mucking around with their toys.

I have abandoned ship because I don’t like the portrayal of the gangsters, and I’m not too keen on the cops either, except for Hugh.

I didn't even make it to this week! Instead I watched a couple of episodes of Good Omens which I recorded at the time. Now there's a good series!

I enjoyed the first episode but found the second tedious. Don't think I'll be back - six parts! How?

I went to sleep during the second episode! Next week I am going to watch Endeavour! As DCI Boyce Hugh Bonneville's doing his best to portray a real-life DCI Thursday in The Gold.
