We have just watched the first episode of this. Random people are invited to play the piano at various stations around the country. One each week is chosen to play at a concert in the Festival Hall. The judges are Lang Lang and Mika and it is presented by Claudia Winkelman.
It was very enjoyable .

I’ve recorded this and will watch it in a little bit. I’ve been looking forward to it.

I've recorded it to watch later as well, so I'm glad to see it's received a favourable response on this thread. 🙂

Some of those pianists are fantastic.

Well, they weren't very random. Seems they'd selected them already, albeit for a 'documentary about street pianos'. Whereas I hoped we'd see them picked from people observed as they happened to pass by.

I hadn't bothered with this but a friend told me after the first episode that I *must* watch it. I am so glad I did - what a lovely programme, it's spell binding. Both episodes so far have brought tears to my eyes but have also put a smile on my face. There is obviously a lot of undiscovered talent out there but also it's niceness is down in no small part to Lang Lang and Mika and, of course, Claudia.

I enjoyed this. Caught up with it last night. Yes Pearl, Last night's show was very moving, but what a fantastic pianist Lucy was and what a wonderful lady her mother is. Mika and Lang Lang were speechless.

I wonder how she will cope in the Festival Hall.

I wonder how she will cope in the Festival Hall. I wondered that too. Such a wonderful talent though. I thought her playing of the Chopin was better that that of the man who played the same piece. The coincidence of them choosing the same music was perhaps a bit hard on him.

I picked last night's winner correctly as the only one who really made me sit up and give my undivided attention. That surprised me as I wouldn't normally go for that type of music. Compared to the previous two weeks' contestants, I thought the rest were all a bit pedestrian with the possible exception of the ex music teacher.

The final concert was excellent. Everyone played exceptionally well. I won't go into details in case you haven't seen it.

I watched the last of the series and have recorded the concert. I wasn't clear whether the later More4 programme was just a repeat or whether there was more concert and less back stage chat so I have recorded it to watch later to be on the safe side. Even if it is a repeat I will happily watch it again.
Lovely, lovely idea for a series of programmes and I do hope they make it an annual thing. I have found it so heartening.
