To Richmond today to see this Roy Grace play. It is based on a novella rather than a full novel and I don’t like those so hadn’t read it. It was almost a full house because the Peter James plays are extremely popular. It follows Roy and his wife Cleo on holiday to France where, obviously, things don’t go to plan. Actually the set reminded me of that Ab Fab episode where they book a chateau and end up in the grotty lodge by mistake.
Grace was played by George Rainsford, Ethan from Casualty, and I mainly went to see how he did on stage. Very well is the answer to that! He had very clear diction and extremely good projection. Sadly the same could not be said for Giovanna Fletcher*, of some mother/baby podcast fame, who had very little projection and seemed to shout her words, albeit quite quietly! Clive Mantle, another Casualty alumnus, also appeared.
It was quite good I thought, nothing extraordinary really, but it was extremely well received by the audience as a whole.
*married to Tom Fletcher I believe.
