Having spent most of the afternoon berry picking I wondered if anyone else was as mad as me. Picked loads of sloe berries (for gin) and lots of blackberries too. Not a good year for sloes due to wet weather early summer, but a great year for blackberries it seems and they are super sweet this year.

I have blackberries in my back garden so have been helping myself to the odd handful when I'm out there.

I used to have wild strawberries in the garden in my old flat but didn't get many of them cos the birds would get there first!

I noticed a huge amount of wild crab apples too, I didn't pick any as I don't like them but the trees are absolutely loaded this year.

I thought they would be cos the trees were covered in blossom last spring.

Love Blackberry collecting, then go mad making apple and blackberry pies to freeze. My friend has apple trees so I go on a baking spree.

I love blackberry & apple pie. Was off the menu for years, as you just didn't see blackberries in the shops here on the Costa. Appeared for the first time about 2-3 years ago, together with raspberries, which were also absent. I don't know if this was due to these berries not being grown here, or they just weren't imported. Nice to have them now though. Love pies, but the real weakness is crumble.

We have masses of blackberry bushes but the OH cut them back so we have no blackberries this year. We do have damsons though so the OH is making damson gin, not so good as sloe gin but very tasty nonetheless.
