Anyone watching this? BBC2 on Wednesday I think.
It’s an interesting story about Yorkshire villagers in the 1760s who clipped proper coins to make their own. I can’t imagine it has a happy ending for those concerned (judging by the title) but it is based on a true story which I haven’t yet googled. It is by Shane Meadows (This is England) and stars two of the male actors from that and the kitchen maid from Downton Abbey. It isn’t bad, would be my assessment and quite funny in places. It is partly improvised and I thought this made the pacing rather slow, with a fair amount of repetition probably to give them time to think. And serious F-bomb alert, nearly every sentence, which was too much.

Watched the first episode of the three. It is very slow and repetitive. So far it's been 100% background and mood setting, and 0% plot advancement - there's been coins but no mention yet as far as I noticed of clipping them, which the write-up says is the main point of the story. I don't recall finding anything funny in it, and could have done without the incessant bad language. Having said all that there is something about it that's strangely compelling. I'll probably keep watching.

Well I may have overstated the case when I called it funny! And yes, given it’s supposedly all about coins, they are making a very late appearance if it’s only three episodes. I’m sure the repetition, such as where did you come from? Birmingham. Birmingham? Yes Birmingham. He’s come from Birmingham! What walked from Birmingham?, was down to them not really being all that great at improvising.

I've watched the second episode on iPlayer. OK, that is quite amusing. It also contains a lot less swearing than ep. 1.
