Do not watch this if you are about to go in for surgery. Especially if it’s back surgery!
This is a true crime drama based on the case of Doctor Christopher Duntsch. The man was more a butcher than a doctor and to this point unclear whether he was just hopeless or a sociopath or a narcissist. Or a bit of each! He is hideous to his colleagues, and comes in wearing dirty, torn scrubs day after day, as well as drinking a lot and taking drugs. The show seems to be leaping around the schedules because it started on Tuesdays at 10.00 but I think is now on Mondays. So All4 is probably the best bet.
the lovely Joshua Jackson from Fringe plays “Doctor” Duntsch and Alec Baldwin and Christian Slater play two senior surgeons who become suspicious…. It is a horrible story of course, and I’ve only watched episode 1, but it is in the same vein as those Dear John reconstructive dramas. Or that Patricia Arquette drama where she pretended her daughter had cancer and kept her in that state for years. Interesting but gruesome.

Watched the first episode. Not for me I'm afraid.

I was going to watch it but both your reports have helped me change my mind! I have started to watch Fringe again instead. Probably about the third time!

OMG, we have our own version in Salford! Page 4 of today’s Sunday Times reads like an episode of Doctor Death, Screws inserted wrongly, Bullying attitude to staff, God complex, Inappropriate to women, Patients left in agony or paralysed and one dead, Just suspended, no legal action taken by the powers that be.
I haven’t named him, although they do in the paper, but it honestly reads just the same. Doctor Death is serving a life sentence. I bet nothing or very little happens to our version.

That’s awful Marion. We had our own consultant here in Kent and he became known as Dr Danger. He actually described himself as the fastest gynaecologist in the South East. He butchered the innards of hundreds of women by trying to complete hysterectomies as quickly as he could. He left bits behind, mutilated some and made others infertile (where that wasn’t the reason for an operation), and generally left them in great pain.
He was struck off in the end and I believe he moved to Saudi Arabia in the end. He was actually my consultant for my first pregnancy although I never actually met him. He did my friend’s hysterectomy but forgot to remove her overies where she was at risk of ovarian cancer. Thankfully he didn’t botch the op he did do, but it did mean she had to have a second operation a couple of years later.
