A disappointing end to what started out as a promising series. It was very rushed wasnt it? And Glen finally does something good and still gets no thanks from Sian and gets taken in by the police… he will probably be done for assault!
But most importantly, where on earth were the fire brigade? The police had been and the siblings just watch the house burn down. I thought that was most odd.

You might think differently. Do watch and let us know your verdict Good grief, where to start!? However much of this was left on the cutting room floor? It was so disjointed and altogether unsatisfactory. I wonder if maybe it was originally intended to have 5 or 6 episodes and was cut down to make 4 with the result that it didn't really make sense. The characters never really developed did they? That was a shame because it had a good cast. I was really sucked in by the first episode but it ended up as a damp squib.☹️

I did just manage to stick it out but found the whole thing disappointing - relying as it did on an extremely unlikely set of events, characters and circumstances. I thought the BBC's offerings, 'The Woman in the Wall' and 'The Following Events are Based on a Pack of Lies', had their faults but were a lot better than this.

I do sometimes wonder if we are still suffering from the way television drama production virtually shut down during the various lockdowns. Are they still trying to make up lost revenue by commissioning and broadcasting stuff that wouldn't have seen the light of day before the pandemic? I think the same argument can be applied to the acting profession so that even big names have taken on roles in surprisingly bad productions. Am I looking back to pre-Covid television through rose coloured specs? Although there has always been poor stuff it seems to me that the overall quality has gone way down since then.

GMan, I quite enjoyed The Following Events are Based on a Pack of Lies, but also thought the end to that was very rushed. In fact when episode 5 started I had to Google a recap of episode 4 because I just didn’t understand where we were in the story, or how exactly we got there. There had been a lot of detail regarding Alice’s journey of discovery but the revenge was just thrown together in a bit of one episode. Maybe it’s a new style of programme making called “make the audience think”. 😂

Yes, I agree the finale of 'The Following Events ...' was a bit of a letdown. It almost descended into farce, whereas the earlier episodes had been all rather chillingly plausible. The heartless fraudster's controlling and gaslighting activities were strongly reminiscent of the real-life Ben Field, as portrayed in the BBC's 'The Sixth Commandment' a couple of months ago.
