That was a good one this week. Bit disappointed that we didn't get more info on Jayne but I can understand why. To find out one of your relatives abandoned their baby like that must be a horrible shock.

I think that those that might know wouldn't take a test anyway. It was a second cousin who agreed to meet wasn't it, but they did say these were very large families. My daughter's partner has over 50 cousins and second cousins. His mum is one of twelve and his dad one of 8. His gran was one of 15. It could be that it might be 1 of 10 brothers etc.
I thought the other guy seemed really concerned about being of Sikh origin. Unusual that he didn't want to try and find his mother.

I think it was more that his whole sense of identity had been rocked. And if he's 60, then he will remember well the racism of the 70s. I'm sure there was a tiny bit of him that thought 'oh no....'

You're probably right and it could be that his birth mother thought the man she was seeing was Egyptian.

My grandfather who deserted my grandmother when my father was a few months old, turns out to have been American. Grandma would never talk about him but my great aunts told us he was Canadian. I don't know if that was what he claimed to be but it's an understandable mistake for them to have made if they were going by his accent.It took me a long time to get to the bottom of who he really was, thanks to the Internet I was struck by how displeased and upset that man seemed by being ofIndian descent instead of Egyptian. |

Oh wow! That first story was really interesting. I had no idea about the forced repatriation of the Chinese seamen. That's a dark and nasty little secret about the war.
