This Australian cold case series has been airing on BB4 in the foreign slot on Saturdays at 9.00. It’s still playing but the whole series is on iPlayer and I’ve watched ahead.
I really enjoyed it. It is set in the sugar farming community and involves the South Sea Islander community as well as the white farmers etc. The detective is played, very enigmatically, by Travis Fimmel who was the lead in Vikings. I think it’s well worth a watch, and I didn’t guess the conclusion. I hope there is a second series.

I've been enjoying the broadcast episodes, but haven't watched ahead on iPlayer so still have the last 2 eps to go. The trouble with Travis Fimmel is I can't help thinking of him as Ragnar Lothbrok in Vikings all the time. I watched something else he was in recently, the sci-fi series Raised By Wolves, and had the same problem. Black Snow is good though.

True, but he has charisma overload doesn’t he? I enjoyed the show for a couple of reasons, plot being just one of them…. I often don’t like shows set in the outback (like that one - something road?- on BBC4 with the miserable lead) but this was really involving.

Mystery Road? - oh, I liked that. There was a prequel "Mystery Road: Origin" set around 20 years earlier and obviously with different actors playing the young lead detective and his wife-to-be, which was also on BBC4 (and is still on iPlayer).

That was the one. I know it was a really popular show but I found it, well mainly the lead, as miserable as sin. I didn’t bother with the prequel.
