This was shown last night on BBC4, first broadcast in 2016 on the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare's death. I couldn't figure out the reason for the repeat which turns out to be the 400th anniversary of the publication of the First Folio, considered the most accurate version of 16 of the plays and responsible for his global stature.
Presented by David Tennant and Catherine Tate, It absolutely sparkled, a combination of his 'best bits' from the plays themselves, opera, ballet, along with several of the songs performed by various artists in different genres, and a little bit of history from the likes of Joseph Fiennes and Simon Russell Beale. There was a tinge of sadness in Falstaff being played by Anthony Sher, sadly no longer with us.
Available on the iplayer and greatly to be recommended.
