Hope this is the right place for this post! I have BT Infinity broadband at home but am currently in hospital and finding the NHS Wi-Fi is faster than what BT are offering (I can't remember offhand how much extra BT are charging me for this privilege) Now I am feeling somewhat short-changed...
Has anyone ditched BT Infinity for a better deal?

I'm with Plusnet and they are good. I pay £30 per month and it's very quick and hardly ever drops out. So it's not the cheapest but it is reliable and the customer service is also efficient.

I'm also with Plusnet and happy with their service. I was also a Plusnet mobile customer until recently when they withdrew from the mobile market. I was previously with Tiscali, who were acquired by TalkTalk, and I didn't have any problems but they were more expensive and their customer service isn't great.
The speed depends on the connection to your home so I wouldn't think there would be much difference among the different providers.
NHS Wifi is fine but you'll probably be thrown off frequently! So not great for streaming but very good for quickly looking up something.

I’m also with Plusnet and pay £24.60 a month. I’ve found them a good service, and their customer service has been excellent. Way better than TalkTalk, the most awful customer service ever and they were more expensive

Do a speed test at the hospital and when you get home to compare. Maybe you need to reset your router or there is an issue with your broadband. Mine went down to 1 when it is supposed to be guaranteed at 50 I think and they sent an engineer who found some dodgy connection in the underground wiring.

Cheers all for your replies - certainly worth looking into Plusnet, by the sound of it ... and Marion, that's an interesting thought that there might be some funny business going on with the electrics or an actual problem with the broadband itself that an engineer needs to resolve. Will be adding to my To Do list for when I get home, for sure
