Is anyone watching this? It has had the misfortune to be scheduled against both Traitors (whose popularity baffles me) and Mr Bates vs the Post Office. But it is available on C4+1 and on catchup.
It's set in the debate around assisted dying but it's not actually about that, it's about friendship, how much we can ask and expect of friends and how 'older people' are perceived by wider society. I am finding it odd but compelling because of the superb cast including Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters as the two main characters who help their friends after much persuasion. She is a retired senior police officer, he is an army veteran so she knows about evidence and he knows about doing the deed, which comes at a price for both of them.
Interested to know what others think.

I watched the first episode the other day and to my surprise thought it was quite good. I have to confess I am sick of hearing about assisted dying and all the coverage before Christmas I found extremely depressing, in a season when I wanted to feel quite jolly. I do support the rights of people to take that route though. And it’s all very well showing people asking for help (as recently on Casualty) but the fact remains that you are asking someone to break the law and risk prosecution for a serious offence, possibly leading to a substantial prison sentence. But all that apart, I thought it was played very well (of course, with such a cast) and I shall continue with it.

I didn't watch.
Suicide is a legal option, but everyone seems to want to wait until they are almost dead before someone else does the deed.
And therein lies the dilemma. Who is the someone else - would you want it to be your GP or the mean practice nurse. We've had several high profile murder cases involving doctors and nurses lately. I don't know who I'd trust because you would want it to be quick and painless.

I'm watching and quite enjoying (if that's the right word) it so far, though Radio Times thinks the finale (Thursday) lets the series down. I'm up to episode 4 so far but the whole series is available on C4 player (*) so I could watch the last 2 in advance.
(*) It may be necessary to have a (free) My4 account and be signed into it to have the whole series available. Sometimes these days box sets are on various players even when not advertised as such, e.g. currently After the Flood (ITV/ITVX) and Darby and Joan (Drama/UKTV Play).

To watch C4 on catchup you have to register, but that's the same for all catchup services and it's free. I haven't watched the last two episodes yet but am planning to later today.
I've been racking my brain trying to remember where I've seen Clarke Peters before. I was sure he was an arbitrator in The Good Wife, I even have a mental picture of him talking to Alicia (Julianna Marguilies) which I must have imagined as he is not listed in the cast either for this or The Good Fight. He was a lawyer in Treme, which I haven't seen. A mystery!
He is multitalented, having written Five Guys Named Moe and appeared in numerous musicals, as well as his star turn on Joan Armatrading's Love and Affection.

He was in The Wire. I did see him once in another UK show but cannot remember what it was I really like him as an actor.

He appeared in Midsomer Murders as an innkeeper and folk musician. Got stabbed through the stomach by a 6ft metal pole.

I have watched three now and have a niggle. David, Tom’s brother-in-law, and his wife Marion were kept away from Tom’s death so they didn’t attract suspicion as family. Now Marion has gone and David was at a dinner so he didn’t attract suspicion as family. Now that may be sensible, for David, but your two friends in the eyes of the law are now double murderers. And wouldn’t it be easy to link Phil and Ken to the two deaths as close friends any way? I know so far there hasn’t been any official legal suspicion but they are front and centre if anyone chooses to look. Also, what if David decides he wants to go? Are Phil and Ken supposed to bump him off too?

I am watching as it airs so the 2 final ones are this week for me. I have thought about this series since my last watch. I’ve decided I don’t like David.

I have binged but will still watch the final episodes again tonight and tomorrow. I found it compelling but odd, as I said after the first episode. The manner of Tom's death did not strike me as arguable as an assisted suicide. He planned it and paved the way but Ken actually did the deed which would surely be classed as murder. Marion's death was a more typical assisted suicide in that she did it herself, they were there to keep her company and stay with her until the end.
I shall keep quiet about the ending until everyone has seen it!

Well, I thought he could be a wrong’un but I didn’t see that coming! Looking forward to the finale now, but I shall have to catch it on Friday or at the weekend.

It was completely silly, as was the copper turning up off duty and suggesting going to the station. I suppose both actions were spontaneous decisions that had disastrous consequences. But your instinct about David was right!

David got very good service at the Newport Passport Office didn’t he? Barely a queue, turn up tomorrow to collect it. All in all I did enjoy this but felt everything came together rather neatly but in an unlikely way. I did gasp when she shot David mind. I also thought the connection between Phil and Ken was very well played, but then it was an extremely good cast all round.
