Disney+ have released a trailer for their Shardlake series. I couldn't copy it here. It gives no date but only says coming soon.

I absolutely love these books and hope they find their way to Freeview or free on Amazon Prime. He’s rather robust for Shardlake though, isn’t he?

He's not that old in the first book. Does it say he is thin, I can't remember.

I always pictured him as very slight and very bent. He always talks about his physique so don’t think I just imagined it.

I too love these books. They do say how slight he is, and a hunchback. Let's hope it does go to Freeview.

I think they've gone with scoliosis, the same as Richard III. I think he looks ok. He's about 32 and at the end of the books Shardlake is in his mid-50s isn't he. Mind you Sean Bean as Cromwell has to be seen.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but the author, C.J. Sansom has died. Saw it on Google News on my phone.

Yes it was on Saturday, so sad, such a talented writer, and 71 isn’t so old

Such a shame. I wonder if the rumoured new book (Ratcliffe) will be published, although some think it was a hoax. The books were a wonderful read though.

Such a shame. I wonder if the rumoured new book (Ratcliffe) will be published, although some think it was a hoax. The books were a wonderful read though. I suppose it may depend upon how much of it he had written, and if someone could be found to finish it. It would read it if it came out

His friend has suggested that it was partly written but he wouldn't tell him the twist at the end. It was set during King Edward's reign. There is more about it on the Mary Rose website.
I watched the first two episodes. Didn't mind it. They're not rushing it and it's not all flash and dash. Not sure all the cast were up to it and it's not as eerie as I remember the book being.

I just binged the whole lot. Wasn't madly impressed as I found it slow halfway through. I also worked out the murderer.
It has the usual trope of making everything in shades of earth. Whereas in Tudor times, colour was very fashionable, even for the poor. They could dye their own cloth with berries and grasses and flowers and produce beautiful vibrant colours. But no, on the TV it has to be dull and dirty.

It certainly didn't have the tension of the book. The murderer was pretty obvious in the show. Less so in the book as I think there were more characters.
