This new take on a talent competition began on BBC2 last night. Eight would-be actors are given the chance of mentoring by leading figures in the profession including a casting director and a drama coach. Their first task was to enact a scene from EastEnders on the actual set, directed by one of the cast. It was an interesting process and I correctly picked the winning actor of the week who stood head and shoulders above the others for me.

Episode 1 didn't grab me but stuck with it and enjoyed 2 (Silent Witness - the only one I watch, and not for the right reasons) and now 3 (Peaky Blinders), there's only one more to go (Casualty) plus the final showcase episode. A varied and interesting bunch of contenders, some good insights into the various processes and they manage to edit it so it doesn't get too repetitive through the necessarily duplicated performances. Plus Bill Bailey sets the right tone as presenter.
Worth another series I'd say - I wonder if they'd be brave enough to include a sitcom (if you're one of those people who don't count Silent Witness)!

I’ve been watching it, half way through the PB one so don’t know who won, although I’m guessing Jordan!😂😂. It has been quite interesting I think. I must say I do usually end up saying ‘oh do be quiet’ to George whenever he does his bits to camera, saying how good he is. I like the blonde actress, Luca. I really noticed her when she played the bit-part of Linda in EE, although that might have been because she looked just like her. However it does benefit from having the friendly vibe rather than the Apprentice vibe.

Just finished the second one and it really is interesting. Loved Rehanna's pathologist.

Absolutely loved Peaky week! Delasi really came into his own in that scene. He put his own interpretation on it. Jordan tried to be Cillian Murphy and it didn't work. Rehanna was really good though.

George really isn't the actor he thinks he is!

I have more respect for actors in medical dramas now. That dialogue is tough!
It's interesting watching the comparison between Jordan, Delasi and Chris. Jordan is good but he's a bit one-note, I think. There's not much depth to his emotions. Whereas Delasi had a Strictly Moment last week and realised he can do it. His face, even when still, shows emotion. He's improved a lot. I think Chris plays off Delasi much better than he plays off Jordan.

Who will the chosen three be at the end? So far I have picked Delassi and Rehanna but I'm not sure who will be the other one. I would like to see more of what Luca can do as I think she's been good in the roles she's been given but seems to have been a bit overlooked so far. We haven't seen much of Lizzie either.

Lizzie is the younger black woman? I think in the right part she would be good. She does play angst very well.
I think George and the older woman have put themselves out of the running for next week. You can't be falling apart like that on a soap.

Yes, Lizzie is the young black girl. I haven't rated George right from episode one. He can act but thinks he knows it all and won't listen to direction. I imagine he *really* annoyed the casting director when she heard him say last night that he hadn't been aware she had been giving him directions! He is such a bighead. I was disappointed in and for Janice (the older woman) last night. Having seen the mess both teams made of the scene I was amazed at how good it had been made to look by clever editing. No wonder there are whole programmes devoted to out-takes!

Janice! I am so bad at remembering names.
It was an example of the art of editing, wasn't it? Both scenes were much better than I thought they would be.

I’m only five minutes in to last night’s and have already told George to F Bomb off! He’s never worked in Cardiff before (what’s that got to do with anything) but is still confident he can go in and do what he does. Yes, because it isn’t that good, is it George?
I think last week Jordan got off on looking a bit like Cillian with his cheekbones so did an imitation, although he was good. And Chris let himself down with all that crying. Yes, it’s your favourite show but get over yourself!

I have been wondering who on earth Jay is. I never miss Casualty! Well I have never heard Jacob referred to as Jay either, 😂. Lovely Charles Venn though… he came over as a really nice guy on Strictly.
