This started last night, anyone watching? It's an Irish / New Zealand detective series about a young Irish couple who go missing in New Zealand where they have been working after travelling for a while, and an Irish detective who has mysteriously and suddenly resigned from the force goes out because the missing woman is the daughter of a judge who has just put away a gangster whom he investigated. The judge is in New Zealand on holiday with her husband and so, it turns out, is the brother of the imprisoned gangster.
The other half of the detective duo is a local policewoman of Maori heritage who is sent to investigate as the disappearance occurs in her home town. She's estranged from her family and he is thousands of miles from home, and their back stories are gradually revealed.
It's all quite complicated and the focus in the first couple of episodes is more about them than the investigation. There's also an Irish journalist nosing around who has a past with the detective and with whom he is not on good terms.
I think I will binge. The dialogue is poor – lots of exposition and the two officers talking openly about the case in front of witnesses, but it's all very beautiful and the Maori characters go in and out of their native tongue which makes a change from Danish or Swedish!

I’ve recorded it but have a bit of a backlog now, and it’s the skating this week too!

I really enjoyed the first two. I’ve just read a scathing review from The Irish Times, but that seems mainly based on their view that it is a NZ crime drama masquerading as Irish Noir which had been given a prime time slot on RTE. And what’s wrong with that?

Funnily enough I've just read the same review. I don't see why either, perhaps to do with the way RTE promote it. If they harp on about it being home grown then it may grate a bit.
I have binged and really enjoyed it, but if you can explain the ending when you get to it I'd very much appreciate it!

We do find out what happened to the young couple, with lots of twists and turns along the way of course, but there's an extra bit tacked on at the end which baffled me. No pressure!

Well that was very odd wasn’t it? Presumably Mr Pastors’ cabin was the lair of the original serial killer but I couldn’t make out who it was she saw. Nor did I quite follow who sent her the picture of it. I hope we get series 2!
Aileen wouldn’t know all that many people in town, would she? So “you” must be a major character. I am always willing to consider the local cop a bit dodgy! (Either that or a super nice guy treated very badly by flash gits coming in and taking over.)
I did enjoy the show though, especially Buster and Wiki.

I enjoyed it too. The ending was clearly setting up for a second series - and there will be a season 2, which is in production, and features the two main cops again. Don't know when (or if) it will get to the Beeb - S1 here was 10 months behind the NZ release.

Hmm. That is not very satisfactory, and there is a history of programmes being set up for a second or subsequent series that never happens.
It's a while since I watched this now and I can't clearly remember who the possible killers are, but I do hope it doesn't turn out to be someone we don't know anything about. As you say, Marion, Aileen probably doesn't know many people to recognise. Interesting idea about the local sergeant. Not Derry the gangster as he didn't live in NZ at that time and had no reason to be organising serial killings half way round the world. I don't think it can be Buster, so who does that leave? Colin and Valerie's brother, the mayor, are both in custody by the end, I think, and the head of the tech company hasn't been in town long enough for the earlier murders. Actually Bruce the sergeant is a good shout!
