To Richmond to see what I think might be the final stop on this tour.
This starred Todd Boyce (Steven from Corrie) and Neil McDermott (Ryan from EE). I have seen the latter a couple of times before and he is a really good stage actor. The reviews have been excellent for this tour.
After a nightmare journey where I caught the wrong train and had to be rescued by my neighbour (who thought I was ringing to say I’ve had an accident, can you get me to hospital pronto and was a tad surprised when it turned out to be the theatre by 2.30!), I got there with minutes to spare. This is a very short play running at just over 2 hours including an interval. I’m sure nearly everyone in the mostly older audience knew much of the plot, but certainly at least one young person gasped in amazement at one reveal.
This is a two-hander and the actors played their parts well, especially NM who had a lot of oomph as the younger lover, a clear voice and excellent stage presence. TB was also very good as the cuckolded husband, but I found his manner rather camp, and his voice could have been clearer. I think that was a microphone issue rather than his enunciation though. Everyone seemed to really enjoy this play. It got a terrific reception from the Richmond audience and I suspect it will tour again given the proliferation of at least four star reviews.
