There will be other programmes in the coming days about the horrific disaster in the small welsh mining town 50 years ago, but ITV are broadcasting theirs tonight at 9.
Many of the parents had never spoken about the events before.
I read to my horror that the coal board took money from the fund raised by well wishers for the bereaved families to pay for the removal of the debis.....

Thank goodness,Welsh Minister Ron Davies made sure the money was paid back.It was a very angry nation when the money was taken from the Fund.I lost a cousin in the disaster.

My condolences gowergirl. This will be a difficult anniversary for your family, although the ladies in this heartbreaking programme all came across so positive and 'adjusted' after their heartbreak.
The bosses who reckoned there was nothing wrong in claiming money from the fund should be publicly named, even after all this time. Who on earth would sign off on such a vile proposition? And fight Ron Davies attempts to get the cash refunded.
What shook me most about this avoidable disaster was that the following week the school would have been empty as it was half term.

I remember the Aberfan Disaster as if it happened yesterday. I could not bring myself to watch this programme. I was at boarding school when it happened and I gave my pocket money to the fund for the victims. The reaction is just as strong today. Every penny raised should have gone to the victims and their families. What a scandal.

Such moving programmes on TV this week and tonight on BBC4 about the Aberfan tragedy. That it happened is an utter disgrace. I am so sad to think of it.

I didn't see this but last night I watched my recording of the Karl Jenkins Aberfan Cantata. Powerful stuff. Especially when the choirs sang the names of those who perished. The names were also displayed on screens at the back of the stage. Another part villified the National Coal Board. The lux Externae at the end was beautiful.
