Most of what you described happened in our house, too, Lone Wanderer! At first it was considered vulgar, but we couldn't resist looking in to see what was on offer on "The Other Side"
I remember loving all the adverts! They seemed so bright and colourful it's hard to think now that they were actually in B&W!! 😀😀

Our regional broadcaster was TWW.(Television Wales and the West). We in South Wales were lumped in with the West of England.
I can't remember much except for Popeye and Steradent.

My parents seemed to only ever watch BBC. Luckily for me though, my nan moved next door and she would mainly watch ITV, so I didn't miss out on the likes of The Sweeney, The Professionals, Upstairs Downstairs, etc, etc, and later on Brookside when C4 started up. I was also allowed to stay up late and watch the Hammer Horror films on a Friday at nan's, till the aforementioned National Anthem and closedown.

Still remember some adverts decades later! "You'll wonder where the yellow went, when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent." "Now hands that do dishes can be soft as your face with mild green Fairy liquid." There was a "fabulous pink Camay" one too, but I can't remember all of it.

The ads that I really miss, are the really local ones, the ones for the "Bed Factory" on Loch Street, or the "Ashvale Chip Shop" on Great Western Road, that sort of thing. "Looking for a great night out? Go to the Tree Tops Hotel, Springfield Road, Aberdeen. This week end with the "whatever dance band" performing with a late licence until 1 am. Ladies night is this Wednesday." type of thing.
I don't really miss them, except in the sense that they were often quite cringe-worthy.

That reminds me of the old Pearl and Dean ads at the local flicks. The ones for local businesses were often hilarious.

Mere Green Records and Tapes was often on, and a local Indian restaurant, complete with real Indian background music.
