Yep. It's definitely threaded correctly. I double-checked. I think it is the needle. I will have another go tomorrow.

Sometimes if the needle thread is not taut the thread may escape one of the guides, make sure the upper arm is up before powering on

It did one lots of seaming just fine. It was the next lot where it started making that horrible chunking noise.

So... finished the bag and decided to make some trousers. Cut them out, lined them up, followed the pattern.... and then realised I'd sewn the wrong seams together. So now I've got trousers where the legs are 10 inches long and waist to hip is 3 feet......
Sigh.
Oh well. It's all a learning experience!

I'm currently trying to remember where I put a book called "Threads for Lace", which isn't only for lace but for any craft that requires thread. It lists just about every thread you can imagine made from any fibre including metallics and compares their thicknesses so if you can't get a specific thread for lacemaking, topstitching, embroidery or whatever, it gives all the alternatives of the same thickness. You look up the thread specified and it tells you the thickness, then look up th second section which lists all the alternative threads of that thickness.
I've put it somewhere so safe that I can;t remember where.

Today I feel quite pleased with myself, I made my very own reel of bias binding which I will use as edging for my patchwork quilt. It took a very long time as it is 11 metres long. I have also signed up for a one off evening class to make a Christmas tree ornament (sorry to mention the 'C' word) in December which I am looking forward to very much.

That looks good! I've yet to get my head around how to make bias binding.

You can buy metal bias binding makers. You feed the bias cut strip through one end, then pull it through. It folds the sides in so you can press them with an iron as you go. I've got a couple somwhere which I used many moons ago...

Yes, I saw those in Dunhlem, and decided I didn't need one, when I got going I realised that was a mistake and it would have been easier with one!
Anyway, the good news is I used it to finish my quilt today, just trying to get a decent photo of it. I'm really pleased with it, especially as it was the first time I'd done any patchwork.
