Why not start a weekly 'Play for today' . It could suit a commercial TV channel by using an interval between acts for the adverts, but how I miss the atmosphere of a theatre play on the telly, like Ibsen's A Doll's House which left a lasting impression on me.

I would love that! I go to the theatre quite a lot but it would be super to see some more stage plays televised IMHO. Always up for a bit of Ibsen here!

Great idea Pancho. Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen are on tour with No Man's Land, that would be a good one. Let's have more proper drama : Chekhov,Ibsen,Pinter, etc....

The beeb did The Duchess of Malfi in a candlelit studio/theatre last year and it was brilliant. I would love to see more like that.

A regular play is a good idea, wasn't it originally the BBC who aired a Play For Today? Also there was the Thriller series and Armchair Theatre on ITV, more one-off dramas.

When ITV was regional Anglia used to do a fair bit of Drama ,Central did some of the Cadfael Books , they have just been repeated on Drama channel ( I recorded the m and have just started watching them)

A Play For Today would be most welcome & it would be nice if Armchair Theatre could be resurrected. Too many soaps, cookery shows & rubbish reality TV on the box, generally, in my opinion.

There have been some good dramas, eg Happy Valley, Line of Duty, and The Bridge, but not so much of individual plays. Agree with most of the TV being pretty boring!
