Some great programmes on over Christmas including Kylie, Andre Rieu, Frank Sinatra to name just a few. Tonight at 9pm is a showing of Billy Elliot, the musical. Am recording a few treats to watch at my leisure as some are on at silly times. Quite a few are repeated at various times so can be caught up with. As my TV mag doesn't list Sky Arts I get them from here: www.tvguide.co.uk/mobile/channellisting.asp?ch=384#127771468

There was a great theatre production of The Railway Children from King's Cross Theatre on Sunday [on again 7:40pm Friday] - had seen reports and reviews about this when it first started - it is stunning.

I saw Lazarus at the Kings Cross Theatre recently is this being shown on Sky Arts? And if not, why not?! I wish they'd film some more theatre shows for DVD/TV. I read ages ago that producers etc were worried about losing money because people wouldn't want to see the live show if they could get to see a live stream at the cinema. But I think it's the opposite. The people going to see Frankenstein or Hamlet at the cinema either can't afford the tickets to the live show anyway, so the producers aren't losing their money because they never had it to begin with. Or they live so far away that it's a lot of effort (and money) to travel that distance. Or the show is so popular tickets are sold out. I went to a matinee of Lazarus to save money on accomodation and a guy I meet at the stage door was travelling back to Edinburgh on the overnight Megabus to save money! I'd love to go to more shows but I can't, so these shows are a good compromise. I've just watched the 25th anniversary of Miss Saigon, I don't think the DVD will mean no one will want to go to the theatre when you can buy the DVD for £10. I've never seen it live but I really want to now. Ok, rant over.

The musical version of Billy Elliot was shown on Sky Arts the other night.
I've seen a live version of La Boheme at a local cinema. It was a wonderful experience.
