I have completely lost the plot in this series , don’t know whether to start again or give up. I don’t really care.

That often happens to me in Shetland!

Me too but I generally watch episodes more than once which helps, and I do enjoy it. I'm intrigued to find out how Ruth's unprofessional behaviour is resolved, or not. Though Jimmy broke the rules too, which ultimately cost him his career.

Me as well! - though I mostly don't have time to watch things twice. Not to worry though - 'Shetland' generally brings more red herrings than a Russian trawler fleet, so any lost bits of plot are likely to turn out irrelevant ayway...

Did anyone watch? Things are becoming clearer. Still don't know why or who killed Ellen, but suspects are gathering.

Yes, I’m sticking with it. Last episode next week so no doubt all will become clear.

I'm putting my money on the matriarch with her cane. Got in a row with Ellen, smacked her round her head with a stick and Bobby did the rest.

I don't know, her mam and 'father' act strangely.

I don't feel guilt from them though. And I think Aiden would be racked with it if he was involved. But the grandmother, not so much

The Bains are a sort of Shetland Mafia family and Granny is the Godmother. Whatever happened to Ellen she will have been behind it even if she didn't actually do the deed herself.

Good thinking there, folks. They aren’t exactly the Sopranos though are they, bankrupt and living on that isolated, barren farm.

It would appear the Bains, and therefore Grace, are at the root of all of this so it does seem, sadly, that one of them is responsible for Ellen's death. Ruth certainly thinks so. Do we know how Ellen died? I don't remember a post mortem result, only her body being stolen.
I don't much care for the change of tone throughout this series, which is to do with the writing rather than Ruth replacing Jimmy. That flashback at the start of this episode didn't seem to serve any purpose given that we already knew Ruth and Cal had been lovers and also that Ruth's relationship with her father was strained. What Ruth is getting away with now is beyond silly and is making Tosh look unable to assert her authority and Sandy look inept (though to be fair he does a good job of that himself!). I don't like the total lack of reference to either Jimmy or Rhona (Julie Graham). Rhona was missing for an earlier series but her absence was explained.
But I'm still watching!

For a second or so I thought we were being introduced to yet more characters. I recognised the Manse but didn't realise at first that it was a flashback. I *am* enjoying it but it isn't Shetland as we knew it is it? I honestly will be surprised if there is another series. If there is another one, the best solution would be to find a way of promoting Tosh into Jimmy's post and to bring in a new sergeant. Writers and producers please note!
