Enjoyed this series . . but not quite as much as previous ones and I'm not sure why.

I think perhaps because the initial fish-out-of-water premise had run its course several series back, and unlike, say, Death in Paradise, it didn't go down the route of silly feel-good slapstick (apart from Joe the policeman and his predecessor who was just as daft).
It was a curious mix of comedy and quite poignant drama – the relationship of Martin and Louisa always seemed to me to be somewhat strained. She in particular behaved as if she'd lost her spark – remember how perky she was at the outset, when she was one of the panel of locals deciding whether or not Martin was suitable to be their GP? I almost feel as if the writers wanted to go down the drama route but couldn't because of the silliness that had been established and had to be maintained. Or perhaps I'm overthinking this ...

I shall be sorry if it has finished, as it ended on a bit of a low note. I do want them to be happy, but agree that the original story has probably run its course

Doc Martin is coming to an end.
ITV have renewed for a tenth and final series.
Production is set to begin next spring, ahead of a late 2021 premiere.

They also said series 9 was going to be the last ... This time looks more definite though. Surprised to find it's been going for 16 years.
